As the world intensifies its efforts to combat climate change and transition to a sustainable energy future, green hydrogen and its derivatives have emerged as key enablers of this global transformation.

Through its groundbreaking NexTerra project in Morocco, Möhring Energy Group is leading the way in the production and deployment of green hydrogen at scale, leveraging its extensive engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) capabilities.

THE STRATEGIC ROLE OF GREEN HYDROGEN AND ITS DERIVATIVES

Green hydrogen, produced by water electrolysis using renewable energy, is not only a zero-carbon fuel, but also a cornerstone for several industries and economies transitioning away from fossil fuels. Its derivatives, including green ammonia, methanol and eSAF , offer versatile solutions for decarbonizing sectors such as transportation, industrial processes and energy storage.

Möhring Energy Group’s focus on green hydrogen positions the company as a leader and innovation driver in this critical field. Unlike other renewable energy sources that are dependent on geography or weather conditions, green hydrogen provides a flexible and transportable energy solution, making it integral to the decarbonization of hard-to-decarbonize sectors. Its derivatives further extend its utility, providing sustainable alternatives for industries such as shipping, aviation and heavy manufacturing.

MÖHRING ENERGY GROUP’S NEXTERRA PROJECT IN MOROCCO

Möhring Energy Group’s NexTerra Project is a visionary initiative to establish one of the world’s most advanced green hydrogen production facilities. Utilizing Morocco’s abundant renewable energy resources, this project showcases not only the country’s potential, but also Möhring Energy Group’s technological expertise and EPC capabilities.

With an investment plan of up to €25 billion over 15 years, the project will have a total electrolyser capacity of 10 GW, capable of producing up to 4 million tons of green hydrogen and its derivatives per year. This production will serve various industries around the world, starting with exports to serve the growing demand in the EU.The hydrogen produced will be used for the synthesis of green ammonia, methanol and eSAF, enabling a comprehensive approach to the global energy transition.

DEMONSTRATING EPC EXCELLENCE AND TECHNOLOGICAL INNOVATION

Möhring Energy Group’s success on the NexTerra project is underpinned by its extensive EPC experience and cutting-edge technology. As an industry leader in renewable energy project development, Möhring Energy Group brings decades of expertise in the design, construction and management of large-scale energy infrastructure. This project is a testament to the group’s ability to execute complex and innovative solutions that are scalable and sustainable.

In the NexTerra project, Möhring Energy Group is not only deploying solar and wind energy but integrating these resources into a cohesive system designed to maximize efficiency and output. The focus on hydrogen plants, underscores the strategic importance of hydrogen in the future energy landscape. The Group’s technological advances in electrolyzer efficiency, energy storage and transportation infrastructure further strengthen its leadership in the green hydrogen sector.

CONTRIBUTING TO GLOBAL SUSTAINABILITY GOALS

The NexTerra project makes a significant contribution to global sustainability goals. By harnessing Morocco’s renewable energy potential, the project will boost the country’s economy in a highly innovative sector, while aligning with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It also supports the climate, energy and development policies of the European Union, the African Union and the Moroccan government.

As the only German exhibitor at the World Power-to-X Summit with concrete plans for a large-scale green hydrogen production facility for export to Germany and the EU, Möhring Energy Group’s NexTerra project is an example of the deepening energy partnership between Germany and Morocco. This collaboration not only strengthens bilateral ties, but also positions both countries as leaders in the global energy transition.

Looking Ahead

As the world gathers at the World Power-to-X Summit in Marrakesh, the NexTerra project will undoubtedly be a focal point of discussions about green hydrogen and its role in the global energy landscape.

In conclusion, the NexTerra project stands as a beacon of innovation and commitment to a greener future.

By investing in green hydrogen and its derivatives, Möhring Energie Group is not only contributing to the global energy transition, but also paving the way for a sustainable and prosperous future for all.
